PUBLICITY
GUIDELINES FOR THE PUBLICATION OF FREE PUBLICITY ITEMS
The Sitting Duck publishes promotional notices in our calendar section, "Around the Sound", as well as preparing advance features and reviews.
Items are published on a first-come, first serve basis, until an issue is full. Preference is given to events associated with our advertisers and subscribers, and others who support the Sitting Duck; to causes and issues in which we have a particular interest; to free events; and non-profits. Non-profit status noes not necessarily qualify for free inclusion, particularly if there is a fee for attendance or other commercial transaction involved.
We do not promote commercial religious events, including "New Age" and "alternative" spiritual beliefs or speculative health practices.
If you intend to purchase advertising elsewhere regarding your event, do not request free publicity from us; we will send our current rate card upon request. Classified notices may be purchased very inexpensively.
In most cases, puiblication is limited to a maximum 50-word notice; we will sometimes publish an accompanying picture, if it is sent as a compressed (ZIPPED) JPEG, and there is available space. Do not upload graphics exceeding 1 MEG.
Items should be sent in Arial size 10, single spaced, with no special formatting or embedded characters, either as a Word document (.doc), or as a text file included in the body of your email.
In most cases we will not access web sites to research information or download graphics; you must provide this material directly to our email address.
Brochures, flyers, etc. We may publish, subject to the policy stated above, large notices, including your brochure or flyer, in which case we become an in-kind contributor and sponsor; you must agree to include our logo (uploaded on request) on your promotional material. Inserts that piggyback our distribution are purchasable at a rate of $70 per thousand.
Advancers & reviews.
If you are seeking a feature advance story or review, send a brief query describing the event, including availability of interviewees, etc., at least one month before the scheduled date of performance. If we decide to assign the story, our reporter will contact you directly. If you are requesting a review of your event, mention availability of comptickets for our reporter.
The Sitting Duck publishes the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month; copy deadline is the previous Thursday.
